A public hearing without a public

The Afton Planning Commission was scheduled to hold a public hearing on proposed sewer regulation changes, from Washington County, during its Aug. 2 meeting, but it’s a little difficult to have a public hearing without a public.

During the meeting there was only two people in the audience, this reporter and Afton’s mayor.

"There’s a big draw tonnight," council member Peg Nolz said.

When asking for comments from the public, planning commission chair Barb Ronningen tried to hold back laughter.

However, residents Clint and Bobbie Elston, who wanted to be at the public hearing, requesting the hearing be postponed since they were unable to attend.

The public hearing will be continued until the Sept. 15 meeting in hopes of attracting for residents to the meeting.
