Afton

During the Feb. 16 meeting of the Afton City Council, council members approved a contribution of $4,968 to the Lucy Winto Bell Athletic Fields located in West Lakeland. The fields are operated by the Belwin Conservancy.

The contribution will go towards improvements of the facility which caters to 13 other communities.

This is the second year, in a five year agreement, that the city of Afton has contributed to the project.

A representative from Belwin indicated that not all cities that use the facility make the contribution.

"We have the newspaper right here so lets list the names of the cities who don’t contribute and shame them," joked Afton resident Jane Pahl.
