Public safety
Think your employer’s parking lot is mess when the snow flies? Try working for the Woodbury Public Safety Department.
In an interview last week on the public safety department’s anticipated expansion project Woodbury Police Capt. Jay Alberio revealed a winter ritual the local cops kiddingly call the “Squad Car Shuffle.”
The department has well more than three dozen vehicles and stores most of the vehicles outside, even in the winter.
Whenever a winter storm comes blowing through, officers essentially draw straws to decide who has to move all of the cars from one end of the parking lot to the other so a plow truck can clear the lot.
It’s a tradition that Alberio said he is glad that will soon end as the public safety building is planning for construction of a parking ramp to house most of its vehicles.
Public safety officials are working on the expansion plans with an architect and are hoping to break ground on the garage this fall.
