Tuesday nights Afton City Council meeting was a full house, which was no surprise considering the 2010 budget was the topic of the night.

Even though it was almost standing room only during the meeting, only two residents spoke up during the budget hearing – and both happened to be members of the Afton Charter Commission.

The Afton City Council passed its2010 budget and tax levy during the meeting. The budget was approved at $1,652,519, an increase of 1.2 percent over the 2009 budget. The tax levy was approved at $1,516,258, a 3.9 percent increase over the 2009 levy.

In past meetings, when residents have attended for a specific issue the city hall chambers quickly clear out, but at the Dec. 15 the majority of attendants stayed until the very end.
